Before I take the leap and install a sound card and your software, would you please have a look at the website redbullairrace.com and tell me your product will enable me to use my Spektrum DX5e as a virtual joystick for this particular game. Everything in your site indicates that it will work. I have no technical skills that will permit me to converse intelligently with you on your product. I am simply amazed that this can be accomplished.

I am useless with a joystick but I do fly RC. Similarly, there are others in the race that are limited to using the keyboard option, however would love to use their RC transmitters. I believe that your product will add interest in the game from the RC community at large and will certainly add a new dimension to the game itself.

The game's admin are aware of my interest to use a transmitter and are interested in my providing them with follow-up. I have not shared your link with the game's admin or other participants. May I do so? What I'd like to see is the game include your hyperlink so that others can find you. If you're OK with this, I'll make the suggestion and see what develops. I'll watch for your reply. Hi Josies_Boy,

You have raised an interesting point I have not encountered before. I will start-off with a simple answer:
If redbullairrace requires a joystick then Your DX5e+SmartPropoPlus will work just fine. However, I suspect that the game cannot be controlled by a joystick. It seems to me that it can be controlled by either keyboard or mouse. In this case SPP will not be useful.

Now, here's a more detailed reply:
The usual scenario for SPP is as follows: The transmitter sends PPM signal to the computer sound card. SmartPropoPlus picks this signal and translate it into position data. It rhen feeds it into a special joystick driver (vJoy of PPJoy) that makes the computer see these data as joystick position.

Assuming that your game is controlled by the mouse rather than the joystick - there can be two solutions:

  1. Replace vJoy (or PPJoy) driver by the corresponding mouse driver - I'm not aware of such a product.
  2. Add an additional conversion link that converts joystick to mouse. I found at least two such products but I did not test with them beyond the point of verifying that they are functional.

Thank you for the reply. I'm new to this forum business so hopefully this will send properly. The game does offer three options: keyboard, mouse, and joystick, so I suspect that I can stay with your product. I'll see my computer tech on Mon to install the sound card (he's on vacation at the moment). I'll send an email to the game's admin so they can be aware of this forum (they're in Austria). Perhaps they would be interested in taking the conversation to a technical level with you.

Consider me the guinea pig for this test, unless the admin folks decide to trial an RC unit themselves.
